Syllabus for Math Grade 6
Expectations
- All students need to come to class with the following items each day: Book, pencil, math folder with paper, red pen and completed assignment. If additional supplies are needed that day it will be posted on door.
- Daily assignments need to be completed on time and will be graded according to attached rubric. **Please look over attached Rubric
- Good attitude and effort.
- Absent works needs to be made up in the following manner: 1 day sick = 1 day late, 2 days = 2 days, etc. Arrangements can be made to pick up your child?s work if they are going to be out for several days.
Assessments
- Tests and Quizzes 50%
- Daily Work 30%
- Warm-ups and Participation 20%
The format of my class is as follows:
Class will begin each day with a warm-up, which will either introduce new material or review concepts covered. Assignment from previous day will be corrected, with each child correcting their own as we go over problems. The new lesson will be presented either through whole group instruction (teacher modeling) or small group / partner work. New assignment will be given and students will have approximately 15 minutes to begin working. If time is used wisely, students will often complete work in the classroom and not have homework.
Each quarter we will cover two to three chapters. There will be between 25-30 daily assignments, two or three quizzes and two or three tests. The tests and quizzes are weighed at 50% of your child?s grade for the quarter. Reviews will be done the day before the test and tests will never be given on a Monday. Extra help can be scheduled after school or during advisory.
