Big6 and Research Information
When doing research, writing a paper and really all tasks, remember to use the Big6.
As a reminder the Big 6 steps are:
1 Task Definition - What is the assignment? What are the requirements? Make sure you understand what the teacher expects before starting the assignment.
2. Information Seeking Strategies - What sources will you use for your project? What ones are available and what ones best fit your information needs?
3. Location and Access - Where are these sources located? If you are using a website, what is the web address. Write down complete source information for each source. Here is a reminder for how to cite your sources.
4. Use of Information - Read your sources and get the relevant information from them. You may be able to skim - find subheadings and topic sentences that will take you to your information. Remember to use the index. When you find useful information, take notes. Write the information in your own words.
5. Synthesis - Take all your notes and write your paper, create your presentation, make your PowerPoint, or what ever your project is.
6. Evaluation - Did I do everything the teacher asked? Compare your project with the rubric. Is anything missing?
The library is open from 8:20 - 4:00 Monday through Friday.
